All rain, no gain: Gujarat batters rising temperatures after record rains

After a tremendous spell of rain that shattered records for many monsoons, Gujarat is left sizzling again, with temperatures reaching as high as 41° C.
The state was ravaged with around 50.50 inches of rainfall, exorbitantly higher than the average 35.50 inches during monsoons from 1994 to 2023.
However, come October, the state has been dwelling under the rising mercury. On Monday, areas such as Bhuj and Deesa experienced temperatures close to 41° C, while Rajkot recorded 40° C.
Moreover, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kandla, Amreli, and Surendranagar also clocked 38° C.
The minimum temperature still doesn’t drop below 20° C.
Rajkot, which usually experiences a 15° C morning, has been sweltering under 21° C. Meanwhile, the afternoon mercury, which revolved around 26° C, has risen as high as 39.6° C.
Similarly, Ahmedabad experienced a 4.3° C hotter morning and a 3.3° C hotter afternoon, Surat experienced a 4.7° C hotter morning, Bhuj a 4.8° C hotter afternoon, Dwarka a 3.9° C and Veraval a 3° C hotter overall temperature.
Mixed weather during the transitioning seasons is common. However, weather experts suggest that the temperature difference between mornings and afternoons is around 17° to 19° C, and the minimum and maximum temperatures have escalated by 3° to 6° C, which is an alarming sign concerning climate change.
A private weather forecasting agency predicts that daytime temperatures will gradually decrease after November 5. During this period, the minimum temperature is expected to drop to 19°C, leading to a noticeable chill in the atmosphere.
