The Gujarat government has extended the deadline for filing objections to errors in the land survey records for another year, now allowing farmers and applicants to file objections until December 31, 2025.

Once the survey records are published, errors or discrepancies in the land records often come to light, prompting the Revenue Department to provide farmers and applicants a timeframe to file their objections. However, this process has been ongoing for many years. The last deadline for filing objections was December 31, 2024, but since the issues have remained unresolved, the department decided to extend the deadline by another year.

After satellite-based land measurement surveys were conducted in the state, several discrepancies were found in the 7/12 land records across districts. Farmers faced issues such as reduced land area, changes in the location maps, errors in the names of landowners, missing names, and incorrect village boundary assessments. These errors arose in the work previously contracted to private companies, leading to significant faults in the survey data.

The Revenue department has issued an order for all district collectors and land survey officers across the state to implement the decision. The order states that land surveys under the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Program are ongoing in all 33 districts of the state.

After the land surveys and record promulgation, landowners are allowed to file objections for errors in the records. According to the Land Revenue Act, an aggrieved party can appeal to correct errors in the records. To avoid delays, harassment, legal fees, and other complications, the Revenue department has empowered the Superintendent of Land Records to resolve such issues directly based on a simple application, instead of requiring a formal appeal process.

This move is aimed at streamlining the process of correcting land record errors and providing relief to farmers and landowners, while also speeding up the resolution process.
