The liquor ban exists only on paper in so-called dry state of Gujarat. Despite claims by the government, the youth increasingly is falling prey to alcohol and drugs, and liquor parties in clubs across megacities like Ahmedabad are an indication of that, but also just the tip of the iceberg.

In the last two years alone, Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth ₹191 crore has been seized from Gujarat, raising questions about whether there is truly a liquor ban or if liquor is freely available in the state.

Due to the widespread bribery network and corruption, controlling the liquor menace has become nearly impossible.

In the past two years, country-made liquor worth ₹2.87 crore and beer worth ₹11 crore have also been seized.

Drug peddlers are operating in a widespread network in Gujarat, with drugs reaching not only the cities but also the villages.

In last two years, worth ₹3,955 crore have been seized.

Despite complaints from BJP’s own MLAs like Kesarisinh Solanki, the liquor menace remains unchecked.
