87 Security Personnel Hospitalised Amid Dengue Cases Ahead of Ekta Diwas Parade in Gujarat

A total of 87 security personnel preparing for the October 31 National Unity Day parade at the Statue of Unity have been hospitalised in Gandhinagar over the past 10 days, with 37 still undergoing treatment.

Of the 87 personnel admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, 50 have recovered and been discharged. The remaining 37 are stable and showing signs of improvement.

The personnel belong to the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). They arrived from states including Odisha, Jharkhand, Delhi, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh for preparations for the annual parade at Ekta Nagar.

CRPF Personnel Dies During Treatment

A cardiac arrest or heart attack is suspected in the death of a CRPF personnel undergoing treatment at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. The exact cause of death will be established after the final post-mortem report.

The personnel's condition was initially stable, but he suddenly complained of severe chest pain. Doctors conducted cardiac investigations, including an electrocardiogram (ECG), before shifting him to the intensive care unit. He died despite treatment.

A preliminary medical assessment suggested that strenuous exercise while experiencing fever or other physical discomfort may have contributed to a cardiac event. However, the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed.

Fogging Intensified at Temporary Accommodation

The affected personnel were staying in temporary accommodation in newly constructed government housing in Gandhinagar's Sectors 28 and 29. The Health Department had earlier reported water accumulation on the premises, raising concerns about mosquito breeding.

Authorities subsequently ordered intensive fogging, anti-larval operations, fever surveillance and patient tracking.

Teams are conducting fogging twice daily and spraying insecticides. A dedicated team is also monitoring health and hygiene at the accommodation sites round the clock.

43 Dengue-Positive Personnel Admitted on October 7

On October 7, Gandhinagar Civil Hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr Vipula Pandya told IANS that 43 dengue-positive personnel were admitted to the hospital's indoor wards.

She also said 26-year-old CRPF personnel Amal Barman, who had tested positive for dengue, died after his platelet count fell and he developed chest pain.

The latest figures cover 87 admissions over 10 days, including personnel treated for dengue and other complaints.
