Gujarat declares state mourning on June 16 for ex-CM Vijay Rupani who died in the plane crash

Gujarat’s former CM Vijay Rupani’s last rites is scheduled for June 16. In his honour, the Gujarat government has declared a state mourning on Monday's.

On this day, the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings. Moreover, no official entertainment programmes will be held m. Rupani’s final rites will be conducted in Rajkot at his residence on that day.

Rupani was among the 242 passengers who were on board in the fateful London-bound flight AI 171 on June 12. 

The tragic incident resulted in the death of over 270 people, including passengers and doctors of B J Medical College. The plane, which was en route from Ahmedabad to London, took off at 1.38 pm and crashed just two minutes later at 1.40 pm.

The mortal remains of Vijay Rupani will be taken to Rajkot on Monday, where his final rites will be performed in the evening. The complete route and schedule of the funeral procession have been released, allowing citizens to pay their last respects.
