Gujarat cities sizzle above 44°C, orange alert for next five days

As the temperatures soar across the state consistently, a total of 10 cities recorded above 44°C on May 19 in Gujarat. Himmatnagar recorded the highest temperature at 46.2°C. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the possibility of temperatures exceeding 43°C in most cities over the next five days.
The Met Department predicted heat wave conditions today in the Surendranagar, Porbandar, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Rajkot,
Kutch, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Anand, Banaskantha and Valsad.
The heatwave conditions are likely to prevail till May 24 in the state. Red alert has been issued in Ahmedabad for May 21 as temperatures in the city are predicted to soar above 45°C.
On May 19, the Ahmedabad airport area recorded 46.6°C, being the warmest city in the state followed by Himmatnagar at 46.2°C. City’s Navrangpura recorded 44.3°C, and Bopal, Chandkheda, Satellite, Pirana, and Raikhad all recorded average maximum temperature of 44°C.
