Gujarat CID arrests former government official in ₹1.29 crore land scam

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Gujarat has arrested the former sub-divisional revenue officer from Narmada for alleged involvement in the ₹1.29 crore land scam that dates back to 2008.

The accused has been identified as Rohit Pakhwala, who had previously served as sub-divisional revenue officer in Nandod, Narmada district.

The accused has been arrested in connection with a land scam linked to Survey No. 33, 35, 41 and 42 in Bakhar village, a case that dates back to 2008. He is alleged of cancellation of land note no. 504 on June 15, 1999, despite failing to properly verify the applicant's status.

Acting on a single application, the accused allegedly certified land note no. 670 on December 10, 2008, which violated the government rule, circulars, and legal provisions.

According to the investigation, the irregular certification resulted in an estimated loss of ₹1.29 crores. Authorities have alleged that the accused misused his official position and committed irregularities, causing substantial financial damage to the government.

In connection with the case, an FIR was registered at the Vadodara Zone Police Station on June 4, 2026, under Sections 120B, 166, 219, 405, 406 and 409 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

CID has secured three-day remand from the court for further questioning.
