Following the central government's decision to hold two board exams a year under the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF-2023), Gujarat government is also pondering upon the same, with its State Curriculum Framework.

Despite there being a considerable number of people opposing the decision to hold two board exams for the students, the Gujarat government is likely to go on the same path as NCF. Soon Gujarat may implement  two board exam systems for  Classes 10 and 12.

The National Curriculum Framework (NCF-2023)

Recently, the ministry of education announced the National Curriculum Framework, with a number of new reforms regarding the course curriculum in different classes.

From pre-primary to class 12, from teaching hours to timetables, subjects, and physical training, a lot is likely to go under an overhaul according to the NCF-2023.

Apart from the widely talked about two board exams, the other point of discussion was flexibility of subjects in the Classes 11th and 12th, where the strictly followed Science, Commerce, and Arts streams have been removed.

Changes to expect

Currently, CBSE and other state boards conduct board exams once a year in Feb-Mar. A supplementary examination is also conducted for one to two subjects for students who could not clear those subjects. For Gujarat, supplementary exams are conducted in July.

The new framework will give students a better chance in all the subjects, as they will be allowed to keep the best of the two board exam scores they achieve.

Next step for Gujarat

Following the footsteps of the central government, the Gujarat government is also likely to implement the same changes in its system. Just like the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), a GCERT framework is also likely to be designed.

The monumental changes may be implemented in the next year’s board exams. According to reports, the state curriculum framework is likely to be prepared in the next six months.

It is important to note that the state boards are not obliged to implement all the provisions and regulations proposed by the NCF-2023.
