Gujarat board exams kick off, students find papers ‘easy’

Updated: Mar 12th, 2024

As one of the crucial examinations in Gujarat, ‘the boards’ began on Mar 11, and around 21,000 students did not show up for the paper.

In the morning schedule, a total of 7,36,009 class 10 or secondary school certificate (SSC) students showed up to take the exam, and 17,543 were absent.

In SSC examinations, not a single case of misconduct or cheating was reported on the first day.

However, many students at a few centres were late, but the staff let them in. In an incident, a student at Khambha taluka in Amreli reportedly went to the wrong centre. With the help of police staff and the ‘She Team’, he was dropped off at the correct location on time.

According to reports, the paper on ‘first language’ was overall easy.

Gujarati and Hindi subject question papers gave a sigh of relief to the students in the examination hall.

On the other hand, the English subject question paper seemed lengthy, stated the students.

Class 12 board examinations

A total of 1,667 class 12 or higher secondary school (HSC) students out of 2,08,265 were absent on the first day.

The general stream students who appeared for the Accounting subject paper on Mar 11 faced difficulty with multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and a few questions that were time-consuming.

Unlike class 10, a few misconduct and cheating cases were reported from the HSC centres.

A commerce student in Kutch was caught with a mobile phone in the centre, which followed a police action.

Talking of science stream paper 1, which was physics, it was overall easy, but a few MCQs were confusing.

A total of 1,817 students were absent out of 1,32,155.

A science stream student in Bhavnagar and Junagadh was found cheating using chits.

Students facing health issues

A student with a fractured leg had his centre scheduled on the first floor of RH Kapadia School in Ahmedabad Rural.

As a seating arrangement on the ground floor of that school was not available, in swift action, the Ahmedabad Rural district education officer (DEO) took permission from the board and shifted the seating arrangement on the ground floor to the nearby Shraddha School Unit 1.

Moreover, there was a complaint that there was no arrangement on the ground floor for a disabled student in a school in Naranpura.

A student in Jamnagar fainted during the exam and was given treatment in an EMRI emergency service vehicle.
