Gujarat Bar Council grants provisional enrollment to over 6,000 lawyers
Following the Bar Council of India’s order to provide immediate provisional charter to students of unrecognised state-granted law colleges, the Gujarat Bar Council undertook an exercise to provide immediate provisional enrollment to more than 6,000 such advocates.
The Bar Council employed additional staff and kept the office open till night to provide the enrolment. The Bar Council has also placed the Provisional Enrollment Number of all these candidates online so they do not have to rush to the BCG office.
On the other hand, the Bar Council of India has extended the date of acceptance of forms for the All India Bar Exam, which is mandatory for the practice of law, till November 15, so that these 6,000 lawyers of the state will be able to sit for the All India Bar Exam to be taken on December 22 due to their provisional enrollment.
A board meeting of the Gujarat Bar Council was held today, in which these important decisions were taken.
Gujarat Bar Council Chairman J J Patel and Finance Committee Chairman Anil Kella said that in the board meeting, the amount provided to the dependents of deceased lawyers in the state was increased by ₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh, effective from 2025.
It was also decided to pay ₹93 lakh as a death benefit to the dependents of 66 late lawyers and ₹31 lakh as a sickness benefit to 88 lawyers.
The date to pay the renewal fees for Advocate Welfare Fund was extended to November 30, which was earlier set to October 30.
Among other decisions, Gujarat High Court Advocate Dhruv Goswami was appointed as Associate Editor of the Gujarat Law Herald.
