Gujarat Issues Unanswered by Centre |
Over the pending questions of the state with the Centre, the Gujarat government has disclosed in the state assembly that 18 issues are awaiting response from the Centre.
Positive responses were received for 7, while 11 questions are under scrutiny from the Centre.
The government has admitted to having approached the Centre 71 times in the last three years or so over the resolution of these issues.
Among these issues is the controversial renaming of Ahmedabad as Karnavati, for which the ruling BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) itself is reluctant, as this move could snatch the heritage status of the city.
In light of this, the state government has not made any pleas to the Centre on this issue.
Moreover, other pending questions with the Centre include the setting up of a Coast Guard station at Surat’s Hazira, which has not seen any progress over several years.
Gujarat receiving water from the Indus basin is also a perpetually pending issue.
While leptospirosis (a bacterial infection causing several symptoms including high fever, headache, and bleeding, among others) cases spike across the state, the construction of a dedicated research centre for the disease has only been prolonged and has not progressed in years.
A demand for a separate hospital for lung diseases at Naroda in Ahmedabad has been raised for a long time, but it has seen no implementation.
