Gujarat ATS (Anti-Terrorist Squad) on Aug 19 had filed an FIR against three, including additional collector Ketki Vyas and deputy mamlatdar JD Patel. The third accused is  Haresh Chavda.

The three of them have been charged under the IT Act, for placing a spy camera into the Anand District Collector DS Gadhvi’s office.

Update on Aug 22, 2.15 p.m.

CPU's hard discs thrown away in canal by the perpetrators

Anand police on Aug 21, pulled out two hard discs from a canal near Karamsad, which were reported to be missing from the collector's office.

Police conducted a reenactment of the honeytrap incident on Aug 20, which included the two accused, Ketki Vyas and JD Patel.

After this, police seized a laptop and two CPUs from the collector's office, following which hard discs were reported to be missing from the seized CPUs.

The police rigorously interrogated the accused Vyas and Patel regarding this and discovered that they had burned the hard discs and flung them into a canal near Sandeshwar, in Karamsad.

With the help of the fire department's divers, police got hold of the disposed-off hard discs on Aug 21 from the canal.

Charged under IT Act and for money extortion

The investigation on the DS Gadhvi video case is still ongoing as the IAS is suspended. However, the questions about where the camera came from in the collector’s office puzzled many.

Today, with the arrest of the three accused, the air has been cleared. The main accused Ketki Vyas, who also happens to be the wife of Sanand DySP Bhaskar Vyas, deputy mamlatdar JD Patel, and Haresh Chavda, have been charged for the efforts of extorting money from the collector.

Wasn’t their first attempt

If the sources are to be believed, this wasn’t the trio’s first attempt to trap the district collector. Cameras were planted, and two women were sent to trap Gadhvi in the office before, too, suggest the sources.

The lesser-known accused

Sources suggest that the third accused, Haresh Chavda, was the one who brought the women to be sent to DS Gadhvi’s office, and he may also be the one who had bought the cameras that were planted in the office.

Till now, the women involved in this case have not been identified.

The DS Gadhvi video case

Gadhvi was suspended on Aug 9 while in office due to allegations of misconduct and immorality against him. A video of the 2008 IAS batch Gadhvi had come out, where he was caught committing an obscene act with a woman in his office.
