Gujarat ATS arrests health worker for spying, passing on secret information to Pak agent
In a significant operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a 28-year-old health worker from Kutch for allegedly spying and passing on sensitive information regarding the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Navy to a Pakistani agent via WhatsApp.
The arrested accused, identified as Sahadevsinh Dipubha Gohil, a resident of Narayan Sarovar in Lakhpat taluka, Kutch, had been employed as a Multi-Purpose Health Worker on contract at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Matana Madh, Dayapar-1 Beat According to ATS officials, Sahadev Singh had been in contact with a Pakistani female agent named Aditi Bhardwaj since June-July 2023 and had been sharing photos and videos of sensitive installations and construction activities in the vicinity of the BSF and Indian Navy establishments.
The operation was launched after ATS officials received confidential intelligence on 29 April 2025. Acting on the tip-off, senior officials, formed a dedicated team to investigate the matter using technical and human resources.
Sahadev Singh was brought to the ATS headquarters in Ahmedabad on May 1, 2025 for questioning. During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had been sharing confidential photos and videos of the BSF and Indian Navy offices, as well as of new construction activities, to the Pakistani agent through WhatsApp. In exchange, he was reportedly offered financial benefits of ₹40,000 by the Pakistani handler.
The ATS investigation further revealed that in January 2025, the accused procured a Jio SIM card using his Aadhaar details and, in February 2025, provided the WhatsApp OTP linked to that number to the Pakistani agent, enabling her to operate a separate WhatsApp account to receive sensitive material.
The ATS has sent Sahadev Singh’s mobile phone for forensic analysis to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). A detailed examination of the device revealed substantial evidence of the accused’s communication and data exchanges with the Pakistani handler.
Based on the comprehensive evidence and the severity of the breach, the Gujarat ATS has registered a case against Sahadevsinh Dipubha Gohil and the Pakistani agent Aditi Bhardwaj under relevant sections of the law pertaining to the illegal procurement and transmission of sensitive information linked to national security. Further legal proceedings are underway, as authorities intensify their efforts to counter any potential security threats emanating from this espionage ring.
