Gujarat assembly Budget Session to commence on February 16

Gujarat Assembly’s upcoming Budget Session has taken a clear shape, with the state government formally announcing the dates and key contours of the session.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, where preparations for the Budget and a review of ongoing and proposed state projects were discussed.
The Working Advisory Committee of the assembly has also been reconstituted. Finance Minister Kanu Desai will present the Budget estimates for the financial year 2026–27.
Budget Session schedule and key details
The Budget Session of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly will begin on February 16 and continue till March 25. The session will open with the Governor’s address to the House.
During the course of the session, the election of the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly is also scheduled. The government is expected to bring in several important legislative changes during this period.

What to expect from the session
The government is preparing to introduce around seven new Bills during the session. There is a strong possibility that key legislation related to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) may also be tabled. In addition, pending and ongoing projects linked with the Centre will come up for review and discussion in the House.
Budget size likely to touch ₹3.90 lakh crore
According to sources, Finance Minister Kanu Desai may present the largest Budget in Gujarat’s history this year. Compared to the previous Budget, an increase of around 15 per cent is being projected. The total size of the Budget is estimated to be around ₹3.90 lakh crore. The Finance Department has stepped up preparations to finalise the estimates and allocations.
Cabinet meeting review
During the Cabinet meeting, a detailed review was carried out on current Budget expenditure and new proposals. Greater emphasis is expected this year on sectors such as education, healthcare and infrastructure development. With the Budget Session set to begin in the third week of February, public attention across the state is now firmly focused on the key announcements and policy decisions that are likely to emerge from the Assembly.
