Gujarat announces 40 paise reduction in fuel surcharge on electricity consumption

The state government on Tuesday announced a reduction in rate of Fuel and Power Purchase Price Adjustment (FPPPA) or fuel surcharge, 'in view of proper and efficient management of power purchase and stable power purchase rate during the current financial year 24-25, in the larger interested of consumers'.

For the last quarter of 2024, there will be a reduction of 40 paise in the fuel surcharge.

The rate of this fuel surcharge will be reduced from ₹2.85 to ₹2.45 per unit during the period October to December 2024, said Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC).

The consumers will benefit from the electricity consumption made during the current quarter from October 1, 2024.

As a result of the reduction of 40 paise in fuel surcharge, approximately 1.75 crore consumers of the state will benefit by approximately ₹1,120 crore on the electricity consumption made during October to December 2024.

Residential customers consuming 100 units of electricity per month will bey saving of approximately ₹46 per month, according to the GERC.
