Gujarat 4th in country in family court cases, over 62,000 cases registered in a year

The number of cases filed in family courts has doubled within a year in Gujarat. In 2023, there were 27,194 cases, while in 2024, the number rose sharply to 62,146 cases. 

Gujarat ranks fourth among Indian states in terms of the highest number of family court cases.

In 2024, Gujarat’s family courts registered 62,146 cases, which means an average of around 170 cases filed every day. By the end of 2024, there were 51,999 pending cases in these courts.

Across the country, Uttar Pradesh topped the list with 1.88 lakh cases, followed by Punjab (74,231), Kerala (71,201), and Gujarat (62,146). 

Which state recorded the highest number of cases in family courts in 2024?

Nationwide, India’s 848 family courts registered a total of 6.43 lakh cases, with 12.42 lakh pending and 6.85 lakh disposed of.
