Guj govt revamps primary teacher transfer policy

Updated: Aug 23rd, 2024

The primary education department of Gujarat has implemented stricter transfer policies for government primary school teachers. In an effort to streamline the annual transfer process, the department has reduced the number of districts a teacher can choose for their transfer from three to one.

Teachers applying for district transfers can now select only one district from their list of preferences. The transfer decisions will be based on a 50-50 split between seniority and merit, as determined by online portal applications for the chosen district.

In addition to these changes, the department has established a four-member grievance redressal committee to handle complaints related to transfers.

This committee will be appointed by the government to address any concerns or disputes arising from the transfer process.

Notably, in July, As many as 700 head teachers of the HTAT (Head Teachers Aptitude Test) cadre from Gujarat gathered at Satyagrah Chhavani in Gandhinagar to protest over the delay in releasing the circular defining the transfer rules for the HTAT principals.

From time to time discussions with the government have taken place with the head teachers, however, there have been no signs of reconciliation.
