Guj govt provides relief funds to flood affected people

The Gujarat government has stepped in to provide much-needed relief to families affected by heavy rainfall and flooding in the state. A total of ₹8.04 crore in cash assistance has been distributed to 1.99 lakh citizens across 14 severely impacted districts.

In addition to cash assistance, the government has also provided ₹20.07 crore for household expenses and clothing to 50,111 families. For those whose homes were partially or completely destroyed, ₹3.67 crore has been allocated to 4,673 homeowners.

According to Alok Pandey, Relief Commissioner at the State Emergency Operation Center, a comprehensive survey has been conducted all over the state to assess the damage caused by the floods. As of September 3rd, over 1.99 million individuals have received cash assistance.

To expedite relief efforts, the government has deployed 1,160 teams to survey and provide assistance to families whose household items and clothing were damaged. These teams have distributed ₹20.07 crore to 50,111 families.

The government has also provided financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives due to the floods. ₹88 lakh has been distributed to the families of 22 deceased individuals, and compensation has been provided to the owners of 2,619 deceased livestock.

In response to the severe weather conditions, rescue operations by NDRF, SDRF, the army, and other agencies have successfully rescued and relocated thousands of people. A total of 37,050 individuals have been rescued, and 42,083 people have been relocated to safety. Additionally, 53 people have been airlifted.

Restoring essential services 

According to the state government, repair work for 2,230 kilometers of affected roads is expected to be completed within 10 days.  Power supply has been restored to 9,931 villages and 17 cities, and 86 out of 88 sub-stations that were closed due to waterlogging have been reactivated. 

The Urban Development Department has allocated ₹700 crore for road repairs.

To provide temporary shelter, 48,995 people have been accommodated in 88 relief centers. 

Pregnant women have been relocated to safer areas, and 216 deliveries have been conducted in rain-affected regions.
