Guj Govt holds back medical college fee hike for GMERS after students object

After the objection and protests from the students the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS) has decided to cut the initial hike proposed before in the fees of the medical colleges of the state.
Earlier, the government quota fees were raised to ₹5.50 lakh from ₹3.30 lakh. For management quota, the fee was hiked to ₹17 lakh from ₹9 lakh, leading to protests by students.
The fees, however, have now been set to ₹3.75 lakh in government quota and ₹ 12 lakh in management quota.
There are 1,500 medical seats in the government quota in 13 medical colleges under GMERS in Gujarat. The government quota makes up for 75% of the total seats in these colleges.
The fees for the NRI quota have been set at $25,000 (~₹20.89 lakh), which was earlier $22,000 (~₹18.38 lakh).
