On the very first day of the Gujarat Assembly’s monsoon session, the government was questioned about the ₹20,000 cr scam related to Mulasana land by the opposition. The government only replied that the special investigating team (SIT) was probing the matter.

Opposition’s questions

Congress leaders Amit Chavda, Vimal Chudasama, Dinesh Thakor, Umesh Makwana, and others poured into the assembly with questions regarding the Mulasana land scam.

The Mulasana agricultural land was granted the label ‘NA’ (non-agricultural), and then Gandhinagar collector S K Langa was made an alleged scapegoat.

The opposition raised the question of whether any permission was taken from the revenue department and charity commissioner before transferring the land, labelling it NA, and its sale.

If the permission was not granted, then what were the reasons behind it? What steps were taken against the accused in the last two years? Asked the opposition.

The questions did not stop there, and the Congress leaders were relentless. Here are some of the questions that were raised:

Was any police complaint lodged with regard to this case?

Where does the process stand to make the land ‘Shree Sarkar’ (land that was given to or acquired by the government) and when will it end?

Is there a complaint lodged under the Land Ceiling Act?

Who was allotted panjrapole’s land (the shelter to house the cattle), how much of it was declared NA, and how many opinions were taken before declaring panjrapole’s land as ‘NA’?

Whether the opinions of the former chief minister and revenue minister were taken before declaring the land NA?

Government’s half-hearted answer

After beating around the bush, the government was only able to give two or three answers.

The government replied that two police complaints had been lodged under the Land Ceiling Act.

Without paying heed to a number of questions, the government only replied that a SIT had been established and that it was probing the matter.

Involvement of the two well-known Ahmedabad clubs

When the Congress senior MLA, Shailesh Parmar, asked, “Whether agriculture zone land lying within the boundaries of AUDA (Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority) permitted for development projects under hotel policy?”

If yes, then how much land was permitted for the same? He also asked about the income earned from that deal, if any.

Responding to this, the government accepted that around 1.27 lakh sq m of land was allotted to Rajpath Club in Feb 2023 and 1.71 lakh sq m was given to Karnavati Club in Jan 2023 for construction purposes.
