Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has approved an annual budget exceeding ₹160 crore for the financial year 2026–27 at its Board of Governors meeting, with plans to initiate recruitment for teaching and non-teaching posts following government approval.

The budget includes a government grant of around ₹30 crore, while the university’s own revenue has increased by ₹8.5 crore, taking its internal budget to over ₹130 crore.

For the first time, GTU has presented a detailed budget outlining income and expenditure under various heads, in line with standard government budgeting practices. Previously, only the overall budget figure was disclosed.

According to the approved estimates, income from government grants stands at over ₹29 crore, compared with ₹30.74 crore in the revised budget of the previous year. Expenditure under this head is also projected at over ₹29 crore, up from more than ₹24 crore earlier, resulting in a surplus of ₹6.57 crore last year.

The university’s overall internal budget is estimated at ₹130.06 crore, with income and expenditure broadly balanced. In the 2025–26 budget, GTU had projected income of over ₹110 crore and expenditure of ₹88.33 crore. However, revised figures showed income rising to ₹121.47 crore and expenditure to ₹122.05 crore, leading to a deficit of ₹58 lakh.

GTU’s consultancy income has reached ₹3.70 crore, including revenue from government recruitment examinations, consultancy services and academic activities. Of this, ₹2.75 crore has come from recruitment-related consultancy, ₹35 lakh from CCC examinations, and ₹60 lakh from testing, training and research conducted by various departments. Notably, departmental consultancy income has increased from ₹39 lakh last year to ₹60 lakh.

The university is also set to address long-pending staff vacancies. Following approval of a new institutional structure by the government, GTU plans to fill around 17 to 19 teaching and non-teaching posts this year, with a budgetary provision of ₹37 lakh allocated for recruitment.
