To settle in foreign countries has always been a craze in Gujarat. The firms and centres that provide services like immigration admissions, foreign university selection and admission, and coaching to crack the language exams such as International English Language Testing System (IELTS), are making a quick buck in various cities in Gujarat.

The state GST department raided 53 places providing admission to immigration and foreign universities in Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Vadodara, and Surat.

GST department in action

Out of all the cities, the most number of firms were targeted in Vadodara, where the department raided 24 firms. 16 places in Ahmedabad, six in Surat, five in Rajkot, and two firms in Mehsana were raided by the different teams of the GST department.

In the primary investigation, transactions worth crores of rupees have been found. The firms are suspected of being involved in huge tax evasion.

These firms offer services including immigration admissions, foreign university admission consultations, and coaching for examinations concerned with higher studies abroad.

According to sources, these firms charge a huge sum of money from aspirants. In the exchange of transactions, valid receipts are not provided to the customers. Since the high prices that they charge the students do not make it to the account books of these firms, large tax invasions are suspected.

Not only the aspirants, the sources also stated that these firms get commissions from foreign universities as well.
