GST inspector alleges torture by deputy mamlatdar husband in Ahmedabad

A woman employed as a GST inspector in Ahmedabad has lodged a complaint with the Ranip Police, accusing her husband, a deputy mamlatdar posted in Dhandhuka, of physical assault, mental harassment and repeated demands for money.

According to the complaint, the victim, Punitaben Rathore, a resident of Ranip, works as a GST inspector at Rajya Kar Bhavan. Her husband, Akash Rathore, is employed as a deputy mamlatdar in Dhandhuka. The couple married in September 2023 and initially lived with the husband’s joint family in the Vastrapur area of Ahmedabad.

Punitaben has alleged that soon after the marriage, her husband began demanding money from her. She further stated that she was subjected to abuse and harassment, following which she approached the Sabarmati Police.

At the time, elders from both families intervened and a settlement was reached, with assurances that no further harassment would take place.

Subsequently, the couple began living together in Ranip. However, the complainant has claimed that the situation deteriorated again within a week. She alleged that her husband forced her to move back to Vastrapur, assaulted her, and damaged her mobile phone. She further accused him of threatening to malign her reputation and jeopardise her job.

Despite the earlier settlement, Punitaben has now filed a fresh complaint at the Ranip Police Station, accusing her husband of repeated physical violence, mental torture and financial harassment.
