Govt universities in Gujarat to have common admission procedure from next year
Common registration portal, admission fees and course info

As the much-opposed Common Universities Bill was passed in the Gujarat Assembly as the Public Universities Act on Sept 16, all 11 state universities will have common admission procedures starting next year.
The admission process for courses including medical, paramedical, engineering, pharmacy, technical, and professional courses is common in the state. However, undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses in arts, commerce, science, law, and education are different at state universities.
No more separate portals
At present, the state universities have their own separate portals, websites, and applications for the admissions process.
In a major change, the state universities will have a common online centralised admission portal starting next year. The government has awarded the contract for developing a unified software solution for the admission procedure to GIPL (Guj Info Petro Ltd). Currently, many universities, including Gujarat University’s admission portal, are managed by GIPL.
The principal secretary of the education department (higher and technical education), Mukesh Kumar, said that currently the government is planning to put 11 universities under the same umbrella for the admission process, and for that, it is collecting the necessary data on multiple courses from the registrars of universities.
First step unified portal, and then application
On the basis of this data, the government will have a repository of different courses available at different state universities. The students will get information on courses from all the universities in one portal designed by the government. In the upcoming 2-3 months, the government will launch an application for the same.
In a move inspired by the centralised admission systems adopted by numerous universities abroad, the Gujarat government has also planned to launch an admission portal to unify the admission processes for multiple universities, bringing them all under one roof for the convenience of students and applicants.
With a single registration, students and applicants can access information and pay their admission fees for multiple universities in one place.
Additionally, the government is also planning to include more universities in the common admissions registration portal.
