The Gujarat Common Admission Services Portal (GCAS), an initiative to streamline the admission process and ensure the timely commencement of academic activities in the state’s 15 public universities, that has faced flak from students and parents, is now facing backlash from colleges.
Following pleas made by university vice-chancellors and college professors, the government has decided to reopen the portal for registration.
The government was forced to relent after vice chancellors also joined the protest and demanded the removal of GCAS from the registration and admission process.
Now, fresh registrations will begin from July 4 to 9 for undergraduate courses and from July 1 to 3 for postgraduate courses.
Students who register afresh and those who did not get admission even after two rounds will be covered in the third round of UG admissions.
As per the government’s move, universities and colleges can make changes to the profile, academic details, or preferred subjects of students who have been admitted to various programmes through the GCAS portal and shall coordinate the technical aspects of this with the Gujarat Info Petro Limited (GIPL) agency.
As per the claims, 3.42 lakh students have been offered admission.
