Govt to install QR codes in cabs for passengers’ safety in Gujarat
The state government decided to install QR codes in cabs for passengers in need of an hour

In an important statement of the Gujarat government in the high court, the state suggested installing a QR code system in every taxi, rickshaw, and other public transport vehicle in order to track the location of the passenger who scans the code.
The state government presented an affidavit to the court requesting the installation of a QR code system in all taxis and public transport so that passengers can scan the code in times of need and security. The details of the passenger, along with the location, will reach the police station, and immediate steps will be taken following the complaint.
The government made it clear that there already exist committees on the state and district levels for the suggestions made by the high court, so that should not be a problem.
In order to ensure the safety of female passengers, a greater number of lady constables will be assigned to night patrol.
Chief justice Sunita Agrawal of the Gujarat high court took Suo Motu action against two traffic police constables and a TRB (traffic brigade force) Jawan for extorting ₹60,000 from a couple who were heading towards their home from Ahmedabad airport in a cab.
Body-worn cameras
The on-duty police personnel will be ordered to put on uniforms with body-worn cameras. Moreover, a senior officer will monitor the on-duty personnel at the entrance points and maintain the registers.
What if the victim doesn’t have mobile phones?
The high court questioned the government about whether the passenger who is in need of security does not have a phone. In the case of the couple who were threatened last month, their mobile phones were snatched away from them.
The court suggested that it would be better to appoint respective committees to address every complaint that comes to the police and authorities, and that committee will give immediate justice to the plaintiffs.
