Under the Khel Sahayak Yojana announced by the Government, more than 5,000 Physical Training (PT) teachers will be appointed to the government and granted schools temporarily.

The first sports aptitude test conducted for eligibility for allotment under this Yojana will be conducted on Aug 20 at various centres across the state.

Registration begins on July 19

This sports aptitude test will be conducted by the state examination board on 20 Aug at various centres. The online registration will start on July 19 and will be open till Aug 4. Fees can be paid online till Aug 5.

Candidates who have completed BA in Yoga, BSc in Yoga, BPE, as well as CPEd-DPEd and BPEd, can apply for this exam. The age limit for sports assistants is 35 years. The registration fee for this exam will be ₹250 for reserved category candidates and ₹3,450 for general category candidates.

Impact of temporary sports assistants in schools

Temporary PT teachers will now be recruited as sports assistants on a contractual basis in Gujarat’s primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools. Nearly 5,075 such sports assistants will be recruited on a temporary contractual basis through exams like TET-TAT.

However, this move may turn out to be detrimental for many candidates who are currently preparing for or have completed Physical Education studies in Gujarat. This move may abolish the system of permanent PT teachers in schools. The honorarium amount for preparing young players for the national level is ₹21,000.
