Gold worth ₹22 crore seized at Ahmedabad airport in 11 months

Authorities at Ahmedabad airport have seized over ₹22 crore of smuggled gold so far in 2025. In the latest interception, Customs officials recovered 1.30 kg of gold, valued at ₹1.62 crore, from a passenger arriving from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
According to Customs officials, gold smugglers continue to use innovative methods, prompting the department to maintain heightened vigilance. Suspicious passengers are closely monitored and immediately checked, often resulting in gold recovery.
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) also analyses passenger travel profiles and shares alerts with the Customs department. With smuggling attempts rising, the airport has recently installed two new advanced baggage-screening machines, increasing the total to seven across the green channel, red channel and AIU section.
