Gold jewellery weighing nearly 138 grams and valued at ₹8.25 lakh was stolen from a woman’s purse during a BRTS journey in Ahmedabad, police said on Wednesday.

As per a complaint at the Satellite Police Station, the incident occurred on January 20 when Rasayu Dalal was travelling on BRTS bus number 4 from the Trimandir/Amba Township bus stop at Adalaj to the Shivranji BRTS bus stop. She boarded the bus around noon and alighted at Shivranji at approximately 1.05 pm.

Dalal told the police that after getting down from the bus, she checked her handbag and found that a small white pouch of AB Jewellers, kept inside her purse, was missing. The pouch allegedly contained gold ornaments and biscuits she was carrying to a jewellery shop in the city.

The stolen items included five round gold biscuits weighing 20 grams each, a 2.5-gram gold bar, a gold bangle weighing about 20 grams and a black pearl gold necklace weighing approximately 15 grams. The total weight of the stolen gold was estimated at around 137.5 grams, with a total value of ₹8.25 lakh, police said.

The complainant stated that she was travelling with her son Rahul Dalal and her sister Kundan Gandhi at the time of the incident. She realised the theft only after alighting from the bus and later returned home in a state of panic. The following day, she approached the police to lodge a formal complaint.

Police have registered a case of theft against an unknown person and initiated an investigation. Officials said CCTV footage from the BRTS route and nearby bus stations will be examined to identify the suspect and trace the stolen property.

Further investigation is underway.
