A burglary was reported in Bapunagar, Ahmedabad, where thieves broke into a locked house and decamped with gold ornaments and cash worth over ₹11 lakh while the family was away to their native village in Uttar Pradesh.
Rakesh Kumar Singh in his complaint to Bapunagar police states that the theft occurred between October 31 and November 1 when no one was at home. Singh, who lives with his family in Ela Society in Bapunagar, stated that he had gone to Uttar Pradesh with his wife and children on October 24 in his four-wheeler. His parents, who stayed back, locked the house the next morning before leaving for Uttar Pradesh by flight.
Rakesh’s sister was entrusted with a spare key to feed the fish at his house. On November 1, when she went to the residence around 1 pm, she found the main door lock broken and the house ransacked. The cupboards and safe were forced open, and valuables were missing. She immediately informed her brother about the break-in.
Upon returning to Ahmedabad on November 3, Rakesh found that several gold ornaments and cash had been stolen. The total loss was estimated at ₹11.03 lakh.
The complainant told police that the burglars had entered by cutting through the door frame and breaking open safes on both the ground and upper floors. The house was found with scattered belongings and damaged locks in three rooms.
Police have registered a case against an unknown accused under Sections of the BNS. Officials said that forensic teams were called to collect evidence from the scene, and CCTV footage from nearby houses and shops is being examined to trace the suspect.
A senior officer at Bapunagar Police Station said, “We are verifying the timeline of the family’s travel and the sister’s visit, and have begun scanning local CCTV footage. The pattern suggests that the burglars were aware that the house would be unoccupied for several days.”
