An unidentified burglar decamped with gold jewellery and cash worth ₹1.5 lakh from a residence in the Naranpura area of Ahmedabad.

According to the Naranpura police, the theft occurred on the night of March 29 between approximately 6.30 pm and 11.30 pm at a flat in Abhushan Complex, near Pallav Char Rasta.

Dhirendra Govindbhai Bhagoji (59), a trader who runs a computer service business in Paldi, stated that he and his wife had locked their residence and left to attend a family function at a relative’s house in Gota.

Bhagoji told police that before leaving, he had kept ₹20,000 in cash, along with a gold necklace weighing around 24 grams valued at ₹1.25 lakh and a gold ring weighing approximately 4.28 grams worth about ₹5,000, in a wooden cupboard drawer in the bedroom.

When the couple returned home late at night, they noticed that the house key kept in his wife’s purse was missing. Upon entering the house using a spare key, they found the bedroom ransacked. A thorough check revealed that the cash and gold ornaments had been stolen.

Police suspect that the accused gained entry by unlocking the door during the couple’s absence and carried out the theft without raising suspicion in the residential complex.

An offence of house-breaking and theft has been registered against an unknown person, and investigation is underway. Officers are examining nearby CCTV footage and questioning residents to identify the accused.
