Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has inaugurated an eco-friendly reusable glass water bottling facility at the Secretariat campus, marking the end of daily plastic water bottle usage in the Secretariat and Legislative Assembly premises.

Under this facility, drinking water will now be provided in glass bottles under the brand name ‘Sakhi Neer’ instead of plastic bottles.

The ‘Sakhi Neer’ plant in the Secretariat campus will be managed by the ‘Maa’ Narmada Ekta Mahila Mandal.

With this plant becoming operational, the use of plastic bottles, previously consumed daily in large quantities, will now be stopped, and drinking water will be provided at a nominal cost in glass bottles, helping reduce plastic waste.

The environment-friendly technology adopted in this project was developed by Vadodara’s young startup team led by Pratik Patel.

Additionally, a large-scale pilot project has also been undertaken at the renowned Tirumala Tirupati temple, aiming to serve drinking water in glass bottles at the price of plastic bottles.

Further, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also flagged off e-rickshaws that will be used to transport these glass bottles within the Secretariat campus.
