Gujarat University held its 74th annual convocation ceremony on Monday, where girl students once again outperformed boys by securing the highest number of gold medals. Of the total gold medal winners this year, girls accounted for 63 percent, while boys made up 37 percent.
Out of 199 gold medal recipients, 126 were girls and 73 were boys. The ceremony took place in the Senate Hall of Gujarat University in the presence of the Governor Devvrat Acharya, who presided over the event. Addressing the students, the governor encouraged them to work hard in life and avoid taking shortcuts to success. He also emphasized the importance of organic farming, expressing concern over the rising cases of serious diseases such as cancer and heart attacks due to unhealthy food habits and increased use of chemicals in agriculture.
This year, a total of 40,245 students were awarded degrees across various undergraduate and postgraduate courses, reflecting a slight decline in the overall number of degree holders compared to previous years.
Among the achievers, six students stood out by winning between five and eight gold medals. Raveena, a law student, topped the list by securing eight gold medals, while DhairyaMakde, a postgraduate student in MPA, also received a gold medal for academic excellence.
Registrar Piyush Patel announced that Gujarat University conferred 341 gold medals to 199 meritorious students and awarded degrees to over 40,000 students from various UG and PG faculties.
