After a row of protests, the Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Ltd (GETCO) has come up with another way to settle the procedural snag in the pole test held in September this year.

GETCO management said that:

- Candidates who had appeared for the written exams in Sept 2023 need not take the exam again.

- However, every candidate will have to appear for the second stage of the recruitment process, i.e., the pole test.

- The aspirants who failed the pole test in an earlier exam will have to pass the test and take a written exam again.

- The aspirants who passed the pole test earlier and in the new pole test will make their way directly to the next stage.

The pole tests are scheduled for Dec 28-29. The written test will be held on Jan 7, 2024.

The announcement came after over 1,200 candidates staged protests against the government’s move to suspend the results of the GETCO recruitment exams, which were held in Sept 2023.

On Dec 27, the state government suspended five executive engineers and one deputy engineer for irregularities in the pole test during the recruitment process of vidhyut sahayak by GETCO.

In the ongoing commotion over the cancellation of a government examination in Gujarat, enraged aspirants continued to stage the protest in Vadodara.

The government cancelled the recruitment process for over 1,200 electrical assistant posts at Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) due to procedural defects in poll tests, prompting protests from candidates.

Today, a student leader Yuvrajsinh Jadeja held a meeting with the managing director of GETCO (Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited) during which he was told that the company is sticking to its decision.

However, an option was submitted against them that the students will re-appear for the pole test but will not re-appear for the written exam.

A pole test checks a candidate’s efficiency in climbing up and climbing down an electricity pole.

The company assured Jadeja to consider this option but has not provided any written commitment.

Jadeja said that the protests are still going on and that legal support could be an option.

With CM Bhupendra Patel visiting Vadodara today, the candidates were also planning to meet him with their demands.

The candidates staging protests outside the office said, “We will sit here till we don’t get a job letter. We are demanding our justice and rights.”

The circular read that the inquiry committee found that there had been a procedural defect in the pole test conducted by various circle offices in Rajkot, Bharuch, and Mehsana zones.

It said that the entire recruitment process under these zones was declared cancelled.

“The programme of the new recruitment process will be announced shortly for those candidates who have participated in the previous recruitment process. The concerned candidates are requested to take note,” it added.

The candidates who cleared the recruitment process for the posts of electrical assistants staged a protest on Dec 20 outside the office of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) at Race Course in Vadodara.
