In a bizarre turn of events, a garba event ‘Rame Ahmedabad’ was organised at a party plot on SP Ring Road but the event was cancelled without any prior communication by the organisers on Oct 17.

The people who bought passes for the event, claimed to feature singer Jagdip Mehta that day. Says Mehta, “This event was organised by Sandip Patel. I received a call in the afternoon from the organisers stating that the show has been cancelled due to technical reasons.” When Mehta tried to get in touch with them again on the evening of Oct 17, the phone was switched off.

Talking about his payment, Mehta says, “Usually the payment is done after the performance. We did receive a token amount from them.” He adds, “A day prior to our performance, Arvind Vegda had performed too.”

The organisers had collected huge funds after charging ₹500 per pass through pre-booking.

Plight of garba goers

The customers who pre-booked the event were enraged by the fraud. “We had bought the passes up to ₹5,000-₹10,000 but couldn’t enjoy the event as it was cancelled without any prior intimation,” says a reveller on conditions of anonymity.

The police were informed about the incident, following which they reached the spot.

Moreover, as per the ticket booking app for the event, ‘Rame Amdavad’ is to host Farida Meer today. However, as of the time of going live the app also shows that tickets for this show are not available and they are not on sale anymore.
