Gandhinagar youth killed in hit-and-run near Charodi on SG Highway

A 21-year-old man was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident near Charodi on the SG Highway early on Monday, police said.

According to SG Highway-1 Traffic Police, the victim, identified as Kathankumar Kaushikbhai Kharchhar, a resident of Gandhinagar, was riding his two-wheeler towards Ahmedabad around 7 am when the accident occurred. Kharchhar was on his way to his private job near the YMCA area when an unidentified vehicle allegedly rammed into his motorcycle from behind in front of Nirma University, on the stretch near Charodi.

Police officials said that the impact of the collision was severe enough to kill the youth on the spot.

Traffic police personnel reached the location shortly after being alerted and began preliminary inquiries. Efforts are under way to identify the vehicle involved, which fled the scene after the incident.

The body was sent for post-mortem, while formal procedures to register a case are currently in progress, officials added.

SG Highway-1 Traffic Police said further investigation is under way to trace the accused driver and ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal crash.
