Gandhinagar RTO protest seeks state’s response to 19 demands

Amid the ongoing protests of government employees to implement the old pension scheme, technical officers of the Gandhinagar regional transport office (RTO) staged a protest today regarding 19 outstanding demands.
The demands of the Gujarat Motor Vehicle Department include appointments for long-term service after completing probation and setting up facilities at checkpoints.
They have also demanded to keep checkpoints functional around the clock in remote districts.
Moreover, the employees demand to stop the investigation of anonymous applications against RTO officers.
They also demanded a termination of the complaints and charges that were filed against them for not complying with improper demands by agents or transporters.
A total of 19 demands including these are awaited to be addressed, for which the technical officers are on the protest. They are also likely to continue with the protests for days to come..
On the first day of the protest today, the RTO officers and inspectors were seen with black bands on their duties.
On Feb 28, they will submit a petition to the head of the regional assistant transport department office, which will then be forwarded to the additional chief secretary of the department.
Later, the demands will be conveyed to ministers and the chief minister through social media, and on Mar 1, the technical officers will be on mass casual leave. A protest is also scheduled for Mar 4 at Satyagrah Chhavni Sector 6 in Gandhinagar.
