Gandhinagar police constable strangled to death accused arrested within hours

A 32-year-old woman police constable posted at Shahibaug headquarters in Ahmedabad was found murdered at her brother’s residence in Sector-24, Gandhinagar, on Tuesday. Police said the accused, identified as Mohan Pargi, a private company manager from Amreli, was arrested within hours of the incident with the assistance of the Amreli police.

The victim, Rinkal Hasmukhbhai Vanzara, was staying with her brother and sister-in-law at the quarters in Sector-24. Her body was discovered in suspicious circumstances on Tuesday morning. Subsequent investigation revealed that she had been strangled to death, officials said.

Personal dispute angle

District Superintendent of Police Raviteja Vasam Shetty told reporters that the accused and the victim had known each other for nearly 15 years, having studied together in college. According to investigators, Pargi, who is married and father to a 4-year-old boy, allegedly killed Rinkal after a dispute over her refusal to marry him.

“She was strangled. The accused was traced and detained with the help of Amreli police within a few hours. Primary investigation suggests that arguments over marriage led to the crime,” Shetty said.

Police added that the possibility of a physical relationship between the two would only be confirmed after the post-mortem report.

Background of accused

Pargi, who works as a manager in a private company, is married and resides in Amreli district. Officials said he frequently travelled to Gandhinagar to meet Rinkal. On Tuesday, following an altercation at her brother’s home, he allegedly strangled her before fleeing the spot.

The Gandhinagar Local Crime Branch (LCB) launched a swift operation and nabbed him the same day.

Digital records to be verified

“The murder was not premeditated but appears to have been triggered by a personal dispute. We are verifying the accused’s past conduct and examining digital and call records to establish the sequence of events,” a senior officer said.

The case has been registered at Sector-21 police station, and further investigation is under way.
