Chandkheda police on Tuesday registered a case of sexual harassment and molestation against a Gandhinagar resident after a woman complained alleging that he lured her with false promises of a job and then misbehaved with her inside his car.
As per the FIR filed at Chandkheda Police Station, the accused identified as Dharmavir Singh Gehlot, a resident of Sector-1 in Gandhinagar, had allegedly been contacting the complainant, Sonal (name changed), age 21, through WhatsApp over the past month, offering her employment opportunities. Gehlot, who is said to have previously been associated with a company where the complainant had worked as an accountant, allegedly persuaded her to meet him under the pretext of discussing job prospects.
The complainant, who currently works as a sales executive at a logistics firm in Chandkheda and resides in a paying guest accommodation, stated that on the evening of September 30, Gehlot picked her up from her workplace in his car. She alleged that while parked near her residence, he forcibly kissed her and touched her inappropriately despite her protests.
In her complaint, she further stated that the accused had earlier pressured her to send personal photographs and repeatedly messaged her with unsolicited job offers. She claimed that during the September 30 incident, she cried out in fear, following which Gehlot dropped her off at her PG accommodation and left.
The complainant stated that she informed her family immediately. Although they were unable to reach Ahmedabad the following day, she approached the police on October 1 to file a formal complaint.
Police have registered a case under sections related to sexual harassment and molestation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation has been handed over to a police sub-inspector, officials confirmed.
“The accused had misused his earlier acquaintance with the complainant to approach her again with false promises of employment. The matter is under investigation and further action will follow,” a senior officer said.
