Gambhira bridge collapse: 4 officials dismissed by Gujarat govt

The first major action has been taken by the state government in the case of the Gambhira Bridge collapse accident in Vadodara that claimed at least 12 lives. 

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had given directions for a detailed and detailed high-level investigation into the incident regarding the accident of the Mujpur-Gambhira bridge connecting Vadodara-Anand.

One executive engineer, two deputy engineers and one assistant engineer of the roads and buildings department have been relieved of duty with immediate effect.

The officials dismissed are–

N M Naikwala, Executive Engineer

U C Patel, Deputy Engineer

R T Patel, Deputy Engineer

J V Shah, Assistant Engineer

The Vadodara district administration, police, and fire brigade teams are currently leading the rescue operation, battling strong river currents. Eyewitnesses describe the chaotic aftermath as vehicles sank within seconds of the collapse. Retrieval of a truck submerged in the river remains a challenge.

Padra MLA Chaitanyasinh Zala rushed to the site shortly after news broke, joining district officials in assessing the damage and coordinating relief efforts.

Authorities have since cordoned off the area, and an investigation is expected to be launched to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
