Ahead of the Makar Sankranti festival, when lakhs of kites are flown across the city on January 14 and 15, the Active Traffic Consultative Committee has organised a free kite string guard distribution drive to enhance road safety for two-wheeler riders.

The initiative is being organised in association with the Rotary Club of Ahmedabad Supreme, Government Polytechnic Ahmedabad, Bhavan’s College and H A College of Commerce.

Organisers said that every year several deaths and injuries are reported after sharp kite strings get entangled around the neck or body of two-wheeler riders, leading to loss of balance and serious accidents. To prevent such incidents, kite string guards will be installed on 1,000 two-wheelers under the campaign.

The drive will be held in front of L D Engineering College, before the Ahmedabad BRTS bus terminal.

Time: 9.00 am to 11.00 am

Day: Monday

Date: January 12, 2026

Organisers have appealed to two-wheeler riders to take advantage of the free safety measure and help reduce accidents during the festive season.
