Four women among 5 arrested for stone-pelting on police, AMC team in Naroda

The Naroda police have arrested five persons, including four women, in connection with an incident of stone-pelting on a joint team of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and police personnel during an anti-encroachment drive in the Naroda area earlier this week.

The incident occurred on the evening of December 22 near Swaminarayan Park, when an AMC team, accompanied by police staff, went to remove alleged encroachments by pavement vendors. During the operation, a heated argument broke out between AMC employees and the vendors over the removal of encroachments.

Police said that following the altercation, some of the vendors allegedly began pelting stones at the officials. In the attack, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) sustained injuries after being hit by a stone. The injured officer was later provided medical treatment.

Based on a complaint filed in connection with the assault, the Naroda police registered a case and launched an investigation. “Five accused, including four women, have been arrested in the case. Efforts are on to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects,” said Naroda Police Inspector P V Gohil.

The police are analysing CCTV footage from the area to identify other persons involved in the stone-pelting. Further investigation into the matter is under way, officials said.
