Four Gujarat universities served show cause notice for non-compliance with UGC anti-ragging regulations

As many as 89 universities across India were served with a show cause notice for non-compliance with anti-ragging regulations (Regulation on Ragging, 2009) by the University Grants Commission (UGC), including four from Gujarat.

The universities from Gujarat include–

  1. Gujarat University of Transplantation Sciences, Ahmedabad
  2. Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, Jamnagar
  3. M K University, Patan
  4. Skips University (St Kabir Institute of Professional Studies), Ahmedabad

As per the notice, the universities have “failed to submit the mandatory Anti-Ragging undertakings by students and Compliance Undertaking by your institutions, despite multiple advisories issued by the UGC, follow-up calls from the Anti-Ragging Helpline, and direct interventions by the Anti Ragging Monitoring Agency”.

The notice directed these 89 Indian institutions to submit an Anti-Ragging Compliance and online undertakings from all students within 30 days from June 10. Additionally, the institutions will also have to submit a comprehensive report on measures taken to prevent ragging within their campus.

In stern words, the commission stated that failure to comply could result in withdrawal of UGC grants and funding, public disclosure of non-compliance by listing the institution as non-compliant on the UGC website.

Moreover, it can also lead to “consideration for derecognition or withdrawal of affiliation”, as per the notice.
