A car accident in North Cyprus, known as the Republic of Cyprus under Turkish occupation, took four Gujarati lives on July 3. At 3.40 a.m. local time, a car with four Gujarati tourists lost control and got into a head-on collision with another vehicle near Kyrenia region.
The other car was occupied by two people, who were taken to the hospital after the incident. However, Pratap Karavadra, 40, Jayesh Keshu Agath, 21, Anjali Makwana, 21, and Pushti Pathak, 21, lost their lives. Two of them were from Porbandar while the other two were from Banaskantha.
Anjali Makwana studied in Turkey and was a hotel management professional in Turkey. She was out on vacation with her friends in North Cyprus when Pratap Karavadra, who was believed to be the driver of the ill-fated car, lost control and the car went to the oncoming lane, colliding with another car.
According to a Cyprus daily, the road on which the accident took place has drawn criticism in recent years because of the poor surface quality. North Cyprus’ transport minister reportedly said that repairing the road has been on the agenda for a long time, but problems in the tendering process have prevented the work.
