Four booked for assaulting ONGC driver in Sabarmati

An ONGC driver was allegedly attacked and injured by a group of four men in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati area late on Sunday night following an argument over a birthday celebration being held on a public road.
Jayesh Rathod, 25, a resident of Sabarmati, in his complaint states that he was returning home around 10.30 pm on October 12 after buying food when he came across a group of youths celebrating a birthday on the road near Bhilwas. Jayesh, who works as a driver with ONGC, asked the group to clear the way, so he could pass.
The complaint states that three of the men, Rahul Bhil, Bhopo Thakor, Dharmki Thakor and Vicky Rajput, all residents of Subhashnagar, allegedly began abusing him. When Jayesh objected to the verbal abuse, the trio assaulted him with fists and sticks.
Jayesh managed to escape in his ONGC Bolero and returned home, but the accused reportedly followed him. When he went back to Subhashnagar shortly after, accompanied by Dharmik Thakor, the accused again confronted and attacked him.
“The accused began swearing and throwing stones at him. During the scuffle, he sustained cuts below his right eye, forehead, and left thumb. His mother, who rushed to help him, was also injured in the attack,” said police.
Following the assault, his mother Savitaben called 108 emergency services, and Jayesh was taken to the Hospital for treatment. Police said the complainant’s condition is stable.
Based on the complaint, the Sabarmati police have registered a case of assault, criminal intimidation, and causing hurt against all four accused under relevant sections of the BNS
Police said preliminary evidence suggests the altercation began over the complainant’s request for the group to clear the road, which escalated into a violent brawl.
