A 25-year-old manual worker has lodged a police complaint alleging that he was assaulted with sticks by four men near a pan parlour in Ahmedabad’s Khokhra area following a late-night altercation, police said.

As per the FIR registered in connection with the incident, the complainant, Abhay Sureshbhai Yadav, a resident of Haripura in Khokhara and originally from Uttar Pradesh, alleged that he was attacked around 10.30 pm on April 28 near Yash Pan Parlour outside a residential building in the area.

In his complaint, Yadav stated that he works as a cook at hotels in Vatva GIDC and was at home with his family when his sister-in-law and other relatives visited to deliver sweets.

Police said that after the relatives left, a dispute allegedly broke out near the pan parlour between Yadav’s relatives and local residents identified as Rohit, Ajay, and two of their associates.

Yadav alleged that he was called to the spot by his relatives in an attempt to calm the situation. However, when he intervened, the accused allegedly turned on him and began abusing him and his family.

According to the complaint, one of the unidentified accused struck Yadav on the wrist with a stick, causing him to fall, before assaulting him further on the back. The complainant alleged that Rohit and Ajay then joined in, beating him on the body and head while the others also attacked him with sticks.

The accused allegedly fled the scene after the assault. Yadav sustained injuries to his hand, back and head and was taken for medical treatment, following which he lodged a complaint with police.

Khokhra police have registered a case against Rohit, Ajay and two unidentified associates on charges of assault, causing hurt, criminal intimidation and unlawful assembly.
