Former Dediyapada (Narmada) MLA Mahesh Vasava, son of Bharatiya Tribal Party(BTP) national president Chhotu Vasava, formally joined the Congress Party on 6th of january, 2026, at the conclusion of the party’s Jan Akrosh Yatra in Dahod.

Vasava had earlier left BTP to join BJP, but nine months ago, he quit the BJP, removing his saffron sash and distancing himself from the party. His return to active politics with the Congress is being seen as a significant development in the tribal dominated region of the state.

Vasava joined the party in the presence of senior leaders. Speaking on the occasion, Vasava alleged that the BJP government’s policies over the past 30 years have been anti-people, particularly affecting tribal communities.

He claimed that issues related to water, forest, and land rights have severely impacted tribals and said the time had come to raise a collective voice against injustice.

Political observers say Vasava’s induction has dealt a setback to the BJP in tribal areas, where the influence of the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is reportedly growing.

There is talk that Mahesh Vasava can now contest the assembly elections as a Congress candidate from the Jhagdiya seat. Political analysts believe that the entry of the former BTP MLA will further add to the political strength of the GOP in Gujarat.
