Jaimini Gadhia, an officer working in the Gandhinagar collector's office, has filed a complaint that the disputed land was given on a lease of 99 years by Ahmedabad’s panjarapol, but there was a lack of supporting documents. The land was later sold to the Dharti Cooperative Association (Dharti Samuhik Mandli) against the rules. The complaint also alleged that the deal made huge profits for the association.

The complaint states that even though the then-district collector of Gandhinagar, SK Langa, was aware of this, he labelled the land NA (non-agricultural), and corruption on a large scale was committed in the process.

Gandhinagar's former collector, S K Langa, was arrested July 11 on the allegations of malpractice in a government land case. Langa was wanted in the case registered in Gandhinagar for a long time. Reports also suggest that some other revenue officials may also get arrested.

S K Langa was arrested in Mount Abu

Langa was allegedly involved in a land scam during his tenure as a collector. A government-formed committee found him guilty, with a complaint lodged in Gandhinagar Sector-7. On July 11, the Local Crime Branch of Gandhinagar has arrested Langa in Mount Abu after a search operation, over an intel received.

What was the police complaint?

According to the police complaint registered, Langa misused his position during his tenure. With then-Chitnish and R.A.C, Langa planned to gain a financial benefit by making wrong NA (Non-Agriculture) orders for the land.

Later, by not paying the amount premium to be paid to the government, they caused financial loss to the government and even portrayed non-farmers as farmers, said the complaint.

Langa was also accused of forging the documents for the land. Apart from that, he had allegedly committed corruption by running a rice mill in a partnership.

What former CM Vijay Rupani had weighed in

Former Gujarat CM Rupani had told the media that Langa should reveal the truth by writing a letter in his name instead of the alleged letter. He said that the allegations against Langa were imposed during his (Rupani’s) tenure, and it was the then-CM who had asked for an inquiry against Langa.

The land in question was land in Mulasan near Ahmedabad, and the corruption took place when Langa was the collector of Gandhinagar.
