Ahead of the monsoon, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has identified 25 underpasses across the city as flood-prone zones. It warned that anyone entering them despite restrictions during waterlogging would do so at their own risk and urged citizens not to use them when they are closed due to flooding or maintenance work.

In a public advisory, the civic body said these underpasses could become unsafe during heavy rainfall and urged motorists and pedestrians to use alternative routes whenever access is restricted.

According to AMC officials, several underpasses in the city are inundated even during moderate rainfall, leading to traffic disruptions and safety concerns.

The civic body said warning gates would be closed whenever water accumulates or cleaning operations are underway, and commuters should strictly adhere to the restrictions.

Officials stated that citizens entering closed underpasses despite warnings would be doing so at their own risk and should follow designated alternative routes.

The advisory comes as Ahmedabad prepares for the monsoon season, during which concerns over waterlogging, potholes and traffic management remain significant civic challenges.

The underpasses identified by AMC include Stadium, Usmanpura, Akhbarnagar, Naranpura, Maninagar (South), Parimal, Kubernagar, Mithakhali, GST, Kaligam DEMU, Jalaram (Paldi), Kaligam Garnala, Sabarmati D Cabin and several railway underpasses and level-crossing underpasses constructed on the Ahmedabad-Botad and Khodiyar railway lines.
