The much-awaited monsoon has arrived in Gujarat with heavy rainfall reported in several parts of Gujarat. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that in the next 24 hours, several parts of the state — particularly coastal areas of south Gujarat and Saurashtra — are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.

In Bhavnagar’s Jesar, around 7 inches of rain fell within just 4 hours today, leading to waterlogging everywhere. Palitana, Mahuva, and Vallabhipur also experienced flood-like conditions due to heavy rainfall. As a result, many rivers in the region began flowing above their banks.

Between 6 am and 12 noon today, more than 70 talukas across the state received torrential rainfall. The highest was recorded in Jesar, Bhavnagar, with 6.97 inches.

Palitana in Bhavnagar saw 5.94 inches, Mahuva received 5.83 inches, Talaja got 3.03 inches, and Sihor in Bhavnagar recorded 1.81 inches. Rajula in Amreli received 1.69 inches, Umargam in Valsad and Una in Gir Somnath each received 1.22 inches, Sutrapada in Gir Somnath got 1.14 inches, Hansot in Bharuch recorded 1.06 inches, and Gariyadhar in Bhavnagar received 1.02 inches of rainfall.

According to the weather department, in the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Amreli, Bhavnagar, Surat, Navsari, and Valsad, as well as the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman, prompting the issuance of a Red Alert. These areas may witness intense lightning and strong winds along with the rainfall.

Rainfall lashed several parts of Ahmedabad on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, other districts may experience moderate to light rain along with gusty winds. With this forecast, many parts of the state have already witnessed a rainy atmosphere since morning.

Yellow alert: Heavy rainfall expected in these districts

Districts such as Rajkot, Junagadh, Botad, Dang, Tapi, and Bharuch are expected to receive heavy rainfall, for which a Yellow Alert has been issued by the Meteorological Department. These districts may also see lightning and strong winds along with rain.

Rain forecast for June 16

Apart from the districts mentioned above, on Monday (June 16), most parts of Gujarat are likely to experience moderate to light rain with thunderstorms and wind speeds of 30–40 km/h, according to the forecast.
